For The Junior Ice Blacks In South Korea, We Sadly Came Last And So Get Relegated
Once Again, However There Might Be Some Good Out Of This. Coaches In Montreal Have Expressed
Interest In Holding Training Camps For Our National Teams In Future.
Heres Center Timothy Faulls Recount Of The Whole Tour.
I just got back about 2 hours ago from korea, it was so good. I didn't realy have time to write
a diary- all we did was sleep, eat, play hockey! (the prefect lifestyle). I got realy
frustrated, cos the day i got there i got a terrable cold and cough, but it wasn't too bad. Our
regular schedule was 1 1/2 hour practise in the morning and a game at night- all games were 3 20
minute stop time periods! very tiring!
On the second day we had to get up 6am to training because the rink was 30 mins away. The
trainings were pretty light, mainly just plays and basic stuff. That night we played a high school team, it was our first game as
a team and we lost 7-1.
The next day we had another training in the morning
Then that night we played the same high school team for practise and lost 5-2. the
aussies went to Checkslovakea for 3 weeks with there check coach!
That next was the opening of the Tournament, we played in this realy nice rink, it had about
15,000 seats and full perspects. After the opening ceramony we played
the first game against the best team- Sth Korea. About 98% of the game we played in our own
zone, they played realy realy well as a team and individualy. They scored 3 goals in the first 2
mins,
we took 7 shots and they ended up taking 72! winning 22-1!. We scored in the last 2 mins- it was
a pretty dirty goal.
The next day we had to get up real eary at 4:30 am for a training, That
night we played China, the night before they tired 2-2 with aussie which surprised everyone.
Before that game me and this guy nick were sitting up in the bleeches by our selves, then all
these asian kids were asking for our autographs! we spent like 20 mins sighning them, i also
ended up sighning 2 kids arms and 1 forehead! it was so much fun, no i know whats it like for
like famous people! Anyway china came into this game firing after the big upset tie against
aussie. We started off that game poorly with them scoring 3 goals in the first 3 mins! it
started to be a repeat of the Sth Korea game! it
was good cos each period we improved, but the main thing we needed work on was clearing our
zone... In that game ken played pretty good, but my legs weren't there, That game also ended up 22-0, everyone was pissed off cos we lost
by so much and the aussies neary bet them. The aussies know thought our hockey was a joke.
The next day (sunday our last day) we had a training in the morning at 10am which wasn't too
bad, . After training we stayed in our rooms and practicsed the huka to use
against aussie as our "secret weapon". we did it real well, and it fired us up good!
We started this game realy well, we came out hitting them realy hard and held them scoreless for
about 5 minutes. and by
the end of the period the aussies were winning 4-0. In the last 5 minutes we picked up and
scored 2 goals, one on a breakaway and another rubish goal. In the second we
picked up and held them off to to 2 goals and we had so many scoring chances but but couldn't
score. At the beggining of the 3rd it was 6-2 to aussie which was a big improvement, they were
realy surprised and though this game was gonna be a push over. We came realy close but just
couldn't score. The game ended up 8-2 to australia, Any way i was happy how i
played i could out skate all the aussies. After the game we
had the closing ceromony but our team got no awards.
Next Our Under 16 National Team, Had A Ball In Czechslovakia and Russia
They Had Intense Training With Specialised Coaches And Came Third In Their Camp
Here team MVP Goaltender, Jonothan Faulls Account.
i just got back from russia
sorry i couldnt email you it cost alot
but it was real good in russia and i did pritty awsome
in the first game i did pritty good we won 9-4 and after the game my coach said that i held us
in the game and he was real happy that i came on the trip and at our next practise - we were
being coached by aa man who had coached the detroit redwings coach, and a man who had coached 2
olympic champion teams, and one more good coach.the 2nd coach at the practise came up and patted
me on the back for how i played.
i did good at the other games too and our team ended up coming 3rd in the comp and i got mvp of
our team cool ah
my coach also said that if he had the choice of chosing one goalie from any age in new zealand
he would chose me
so that was real good
The Ice Blacks Have Also Been Overseas At A Tournament, Im Still Gathering Information
On How That Went
Thanks, NZhockeyman signing off from Canada

Welcome to New Zealand Hockey in the new year!
Sadly for this site, this webmaster is going to the homeland of hockey on a student exchange starting Wedneday 31st January, so updates on this page probably wont happen for a year, and I mayb not be able to answer questions quite as freqeuntly, therefore I am posting the emails of some local players who might be able to answer them as well as I could.

Hockey for New Zealand in 2001 begins with....
In 2001 New Zealand Ice Hockey teams are travelling to Russia, Czech Republic.
Korea and Spain.
The National Junior Team plays in the Interantional Ice Hockey Federation, Asian/Ocenia Junior U18 Championships Division 1, in Seoul, Korea in March. They won the Divison 2 Gold Medal in Thailand in 2000 and were promoted to the Upper Division where they play Korea, China and Australia. They must win at least one game at this tournament to avoid being relagated back to Division 2. Young hopeful Timothy Faull features on this team and may be generous enough to give us updates or perhaps even a little diary of how that goes.
The senior team, the "Ice Blacks" are off to Europe to train in Austria and then down to Majadahonda, Spain, for the IIHF World Championships Division 2, where they play, Spain, Korea, Australia, South Africa and Iceland. The games start on the 1st April and t is crucial trhat we win at least one to avoid relegation to a qualification round.
The National Midget Team (Under 16) is off to St Petersburg, Russia in April to play exhibition games and also to train with Russian coaches. They also travel down to Czech Republic to do the same where they also play the curtain raiser to a Czech Republic - Russia game.

New Update
Um I got the Stats for the U19s League In Auckland, but I cant be bothered typing them up and putting them all here, so Im just gonna tell you about it.
The Predators are coming first with 22 points, 2nd Vikings with 12 and 3rd the Jets, Mustangs are coming last.
First in the league currently is the Vikings Ryan Luvins with 26 points, expect that to change though cause he is now injured and is leaving for America anyways. Second is the Predators Tim Faull with 25 points and third the Predators Dan Smith with 17 points who also leads the league in assists.
Defensmen scoring goes like this the Predators Nick Tucker is first with 7 points, Jets late entry Brett Spiers is 2nd with 6 and tied with him is the Predators Brad White. Goalie stats show that right now its a three way battle between the Predators Jono Faull, and the Vikings and Jets Goalies respectively, however Jono leads in minutes played.
All Players Top Ten Scorers
Ryan Luvins Vikings 26
Tim Faull Predators 25
Dan Smith Predators 18
Janusz Choromanski Vikings 17
Chris Jefferies Predators 16

Tuesday 4th of July
I went to all three Kelowna + Auckland Development Squad games
They were great!
We got nailed 8-2 and 9-2 in the first two
The First was played at Botany Downs at 5.00pm on a Wet Saturday the 1st of July, we started of strong keeping it at 1-1 for the first period, thanks to a goal from John Astropp. We headed out optimistically for the second but alas the Canadians seemed to wake up and put in their afterburners, and their speed was just too much for us. Some very pretty goals and the beginning of a physical side to this series that would seem overwhelming in the final game.
Brett Speirs scored the other goal for the Auckland team.
In the Second game there were a few changes to the team as forwards Robert Chamberlain and Chris Jefferies sat this one out in order for much older players to boost the teams experience, but they didnt seem to do any better. The canadians just outclassed us that night with powerplay and evern strength passing goals, Ken O'Callohan did his best and almost did pull off some amazing saves showing just why he was MVG at the Thailand Tournament, but we lost quickly falling behind 5-1 by the end of the first. Eugene Nesterov scoring the first goal as part of his strong showing during the series and Timothy Faull nicely faking the Kelowna Goaltender on the breakaway and putting it upstairs for the second.
BR>But in the third we gave them a run for their money, and had it tied up till halfway through the third period thanks to goals from Eugene Waghorn from Eugene Nesterov and keeping the Canadians off their game by intimidating physically (well as much as we could anyways, they were just as big). But sadly halfway through the third they Canadians won a faceoff in our zone and scored off a slapshot through a screen from the point. Bringing great celebration from their bench. Id like to say we tried hard and did our best, teh canadians were lucky we didnt pull off a major upset, they shouldnt be happy with the way the played in that third game if we coudl be even that close to beating them.
Thats NZhockeyman reporting.
Winning narrowley 3-2
Overall a great series, especially the last game
It got a little scrappy, and that Showler guy picked up like 10 mins in the last game alone

Look out its another update within a month, this is because the nice people
at Pelland's Hockey
Emporium have chosen to link this site to their huge array of hockey
links, giving New Zealand Hockey some more international status to the tiny
amount it now holds.
So go look at their site.
Pelland's Hockey Emporium
Um not much has happened, I think Ill give monthly updates now, as their
seem to be more and more people visiting this site.
Well this month, lets see, eveything went normal around the NZ leagues,
well in Auckland anyways, their was a rumble between the U19 Mustangs and
Vikings on the 29th at Botany Downs, after Janusz from the Vikings laid a
clean but heavy hit on Mustang Nick Crawford, Jason from the Mustangs
jumped in, followed by Ryan Luvins from the Vikings (Third Man in,
consequently suspended)and Nick Crawford. Followed by the Coaches from
each team (Who are actually brothers) and then spectators as injured
mustang player Robert Chamberlain, joined the fray. I shouldnt report on
stuff like this, but it was pretty damn funny to hear about. Predators
lost just their second game this season to the Vikings last night. They
are now, 16/2/1. And the Toronto Moose are confirmed to be travelling to
our shores sometime soon.
With the also travelling Colona Hockey team rumoured to be returing for
another downunder tour.
Thats about all, thanks
NZ U19s Win Gold In THAILAND!
After Auckland Center Timothy Faull scored off a nice one timer from the
lower slot with under 20 seconds left in the third period of 3-2 Chinese-Taipea Game,
the New Zealand Under 19 Ice Blacks, clinched the gold medal of their
respective Pool E in the world rankings with a tie and two wins.
This improves their world ranking postion up three places as they move up
into the much tougher Pool D, containing stronger opponents in Japan,
Australia and South Africa.
5th of May 2000
Ok This is the first time this page has been updated in the last two years.
Because when i got no help from anyone down south, or up here even, I gave
up on this being a potential Official Site. Without money for a domain, or
sponsorship for a better domain and help from down south to provide their
information of their perspective of the sport, I cant call this site
completed.
So thats why it hasnt been updated in a few years.
But if you are reading this and you are from down south and you could
provide some pics of your rinks and information on clubs and schedules down
there, it would be greatly appreciated, and I might even give this a
overhaul.
But until that happens, I have decided to leave this as a thouroghfare for
those who find it and wish to show interest in this sport in new zealand,
you can do so by
posting messages on my new constantly updated message board this will
be updated as I am more interested in those who are interested in my sport
in my country, those who wish to ask questions of it that i can answer.
